The One That Got Away?

Hey there, everyone!

Everyone has their "white whale," whatever the collection. What's the one figure from the line that you really wish you had gotten, but fate and circumstance just got in the way? And if it was ever brought back, would you want the same figure, or something a little different?

As an example of what I mean: now that we have Glyarmor, would you want the chance to finally grab a Commander Sullkren powered-up with a Pheyden blue Varteryx head?

So, what's your white whale?

Great idea!!! I wasn't into or even knew about glyos when this figure/head was released and that's why I missed it.

My white whale is the Venjorun Sarvos head.

Honestly I don't know much about this head, was it released/packaged with a figure or was it a freebie? Why are there so few of these compared to other freebie heads released at the time and why is it so rare? Actually besides the blog post official picture I've never actually seen a collectors pic of this head.

Have you ever bought a figure and not even own it? Mraedis Buildman. I wasn't collecting when it came out so I had to look elsewhere for it. I've did the tango on eBay for this figure many times, I've scoured the old OT forums and searched plenty on other forums. When I finally pinned down the another 3rd party site I thought was secure, it never arrived. Heck, the site went down within a few month and my money to the void. I'll find the courage to do the dance one more time, but for now, it's the one that got away.

I do have this banner in my signature to show the current white whales... it's quite out of date, but one in there in particular seems to pester me the most. (Edit: Up to date!)

Sarvos is my favorite design out of Onell and I've made it a point to collect as many versions as I can come across. The older ones keep escaping me, but in particular the original one keeps finding it's way close only to slip away. More than once, one or even two have been in a big lot of figures on eBay that ended up selling for 300+ I couldn't cover, and I never found the buyers to try to get the spare Mk1. The last time I had the chance, two Mk1 Sarvos were in the lot, but neither had a right hand, both had Phase Arms instead and not the black ones the figure was also sold with. It's one of those things where the near misses have elevated the figure from top 10 wants to the very top of the list.

All I have to say is "Figlab Buildmen" - This figure was in such short release that it is virtually impossible to find one and I have offered upwards $150+ for it w/ no bites!

Another one would be the "Blue Sincroid" that was never produced but is out there in the cosmos!

It's been a fun journey reading the old blog posts and seeing the figures that Matt would put together for a story.

It makes me feel like a kid again w/ imagining characters, places & battle taking place in our minds.

After some thinking I'd say my pick for the upgrade treatment is Phanost.

My idea would be a Glyarmor Conversion Set similar to the recent Neo Tracker but for a Neo Standard Phanost. He'd need the extra bits for the big gun arm of course. Instead of the black/trans smoke grey combo of the original I'd like to see the figure made entirely of the trans glitter smoke of the Gray Galaxy Dark Traveler. From there add paint masking ala Cytechion using gloss black (like Dreadvalken Phanost) for the light piping effect and if necessary gunmetal or dark gunmetal could be an additional accent color. Lastly, the GITD green head for Phanost to complete the figure BUT instead of teal eyes they're now red.

The Venjorun Sarvos head was a freebie; not sure why it seems so much harder to find than the other heads. I still don't have one and I'm pretty close to a full set of the bonus heads. That drop was a nightmare from the standpoint of attempting to collect all of the bonus heads. From what I've seen, there were something like 12 bonus heads released in that drop, and everyone only received a few with their orders. Additionally, I think most people tended to disregard the freebie heads and didn't keep track of what they had.

My old white whale was the Phantasm Sarvos in original packaging, but I finally managed to find one last year.

My current white whale is the Standard Pheyden Mk. III... just never seems to come up for sale (at least not in the original packaging). Since we have already seen reissues of Standard Pheyden, I'd want a release with Glyarmor, Axis Joints, Phase Arm set reissues... anything in Pheyden Blue!

I'd have to really think about this thread some more, but Matt's at the point with effected plastic and tampos that he could pretty much do this sort of thing at a production level...probably no way to nail that MK gloss other than to spray an overcoat of some sort:

Mine would be from the Crayboth line before I started collecting them, Bare Hunter Clone. I recently learned this guy was a test shot. He may be the hardest of the last seven I am trying to track down.

To be honest I don't know if I've been collecting Glyos long enough to have a true "White Wale" however it's been unusually difficult to track down the LSA Standard figure.


Was this an extremely popular color? I have plenty of the LSA Granthan Corps, but i've only come across the standard twice and both times I missed out, once by being outbid in the last 10sec on Ebay, and once through the Metran Market.

I've actually bought a few of the second one, but it never comes with all the pieces and doesn't pop up very often. I'm just unlucky with this one.

Someone got an unpainted Pheyden torso in Ultra Silver PVC. But that might have been an isolated gift.

Otherwise, it was those little Glyos notebooks and bags of scarves and Switch Pins.

The Pheyden torsos in LSA colors didn't come along until a few months later.

Not really one that got away as it just wasn't the luck of the draw but I was hoping to get one of those Mutant Chaos figures from CCIII.

For me, it'd be more a wave that got away than anything: the Hades Force drop. Contained builds have been on my mind a lot lately, and having a wave of a simple color, simple highlights (which were not universal yet -- some of the Hubs and none of the Phase Arms even had paint masks), and a unifying faction was really cool to have. Of my regrets, letting stuff go from this drop is up there.

I wonder if we're ever going to see the MKii version of Gotherrus, I remember after one of the many paypal snafu's of 2016 Matt posted a comment about a second run being planned.

A double helping of gratitude as well for all the feedback regarding the potential second edition of the Varteryx Gotherrus figure. Based on the response, we've decided to greenlight another limited production run. Expect to see the armored avian return some time in the late Spring.
