Forum suggestion

I think this forum would be way better if there was a button I could click on that would activate a giant robot who's only task was to fetch me Combos and pinatas from the corner store. Oh, wait. I do remember something about "feasible". Never mind.

On a more serious note, I think this forum would benefit from a "like" system where you can like posts. Kind of like how YouTube comments work.

To see if people support your idea without saying dozens of one word posts.

I feel like in a forum, as long as it's not absolute hate, we should feel free to comment on anything, regardless of like or dislike.

Of course we can comment on anything. But I have noticed a few rather short replies that really wouldn't need to exist if people could just thumbs up ideas and stuff. It would organize the forums a LOT more.

A one word post of "agreed" isn't extra ideas, but it could be incorporated without flooding pages of posts.

I just don't get the point of 'liking' posts. Do I care if someone's post has 10 likes and someone's has 100? Not really. Your post is what it is- who cares if anyone agrees with you? The whole point of a message board is to engage in written communication, and if you're inserting a system to reduce the actual amount of written communication, that seems counterproductive to me.

(Granted, I'm not on social media much, and I find the whole 'like' system rather pointless to begin with. So, nothing personal.)

My point is that I have seen a lot of people just say one/two word responses such as "agreed" or "I like that idea." But it will condense the forums (and make it easier to navigate) if people who don't really have anything to add and just want to support an idea don't need to add another post. I belong to another forum that does this and I can definitely say it makes things easier.

In my forum experience liking and disliking of posts leads down a dark road. It SOMEtimes turns into a snarky passive aggressive popularity contest where certain posters get a lot of likes and others do not, and not always based on the quality of the posts.

In the few years I've been here I've not seen many simple "I agree" and nothing further posts saturating threads. I'm sure they happen but not enough to warrant implementing a whole new system. Most people follow up their agreements/disagreements with further input.

I agree. Haha! But seriously, I like the "like" idea as it simplifies a pat on the back.

It'll create a user divide, we'll have castes when we really should be united.

May I ask why you think making this system will destroy the community?

We generally like seeing people add their thoughts to each thread, even if it's something as simple as a little nod of agreement. Maybe it's because having to post a "me, too" sometimes does require a little more effort than clicking a "like" button, and so might give us a little time to think of what else we can add to the discussion. Not only that, but we're a growing, but still tight-knit community that tries to make it so everyone can be heard, and for newcomers, maybe that "I agree" post could be the ice-breaker they need before another, richer post comes.

As a result, we won't be implementing a "like" system anytime soon, and just ask that everyone considers that what they post adds to the greater conversation.

All of us up at G.C. Command appreciate the thought you've all put into this suggestion, and look forward to hearing from you guys again :)

Here's a small suggestion!

It's for the mobile version, and so I'll understand if it isn't something that can be changed.

Unlike in the full version, the mobile doesn't have a "Return to...(whatever subforum the page is in)" button at the bottom of the screen. It has one at the top, but I find it's faster to just return home and go back to the subforum than reading to the bottom of a possibly pic-heavy post and scrolling all the way up again.
So I would like, on the mobile version, that button at the bottom of the page! :sarv-darkspec:

I'm not sure if this could be done, but is it possible that when someone quotes a post there could be a button that would take you to the full post, rather than searching for it yourself?
