So... who's excited beyond words for The Force Awakens?

I just read that Fandango presold 8 TIMES as many tickets in the first 24 hours than the previous record (which was held by the Hunger Games)!!! WOW!!!

The new trailer leaves me speechless!

It took me 1.5hrs to buy the tickets from AMC for IMAX, that was insane and something I have never experienced in the 37 years I have been alive!!!

I am so ridiculously hyped for this movie :D

Okay, I took 5 kids to it last night. What does everybody think? We can just assumed this thread is full of spoilers going forward now that the movie is out?

It's great! Just like in the original trilogy, composition-wise, it's a bit of a mess, but experience-wise, it was amazing!

I got to see this movie last night under extremely awesome conditions. My buddy got tickets the day they went on sale at a theatre in a ritzy neighborhood where the seats were assigned and they served beer.
Not only were our seats middle center they were reclining leather lazy boy style chairs with cupholders.
It was amazing.

The movie was just plain old fun just like the OT.
It wasn't exactly what I was expecting and fell short in some areas but exceded expectations in many others.
There was so much hype surrounding this movie that I knew many people were going to be disappointed no matter what.

My friend didn't like it too much, I loved it.
My gf loved it and she's not a huge star wars nut.

The new cast was phenomenal and way exceeded my expectations. Rey and Finn both had great chemistry and Poe was so good for how little talk there was of him. Adam Driver nailed Kylo Ren and really was a great villian. I wont spoil anything yet but certain things urked me a bit but not enough to bother me too much. JJ did a great job at kicking off this new saga and I cannot wait for the ESB of the three.

I would like to see a consensus of good vs bad vs awesome, without the danger of spoilers. In fact, I will start another thread for just that purpose. :)

Okay good. Spoilers. Great movie. Great direction. Great acting. Great story. All in all a worthy successor to the original trilogy and lightyears beyond the prequels.

Only two grypes. The composition of the movie is all over the place, but that's kinda synonymous with Star Wars in general. The other grype is, DID WE REALLY NEED ANOTHER DEATH STAR?!

There. We go. I said it. I'm all about going back to the well, but the Starkiller Base was really unnecessary.

Agreed about Star Killer Base.
So spoilers are go?

They put the destruction of the base right in the middle of a far more awesome sequence. It just kinda happened all of a sudden in a flash. There was no build up like there was with Luke in a new hope, no tension that the plan might not succeed.
It wasn't touched on how the new order became as powerful as they had in the 30? Years since jedi.
Werent they all but decimated after Jedi? They looked more powerful than the Empire ever was.
Cpt. Phasma was a letdown as well hopefully she becomes more of something in the future.
BB-8 was great, but not enough PZ-4CO I was really looking forward to him/her/it? Where was Goss Toowers, Zuvio, and Sarko Plank?

I think parts of the script felt a little rushed and pieced together. Was not really a fan of Snoke or the new 'Yoda' the CGI was off putting in those areas in contrast to how well it looked in the dogfights.
Also the creatures on the millennium falcon were pretty meh. That whole showdown felt a little strange.
the banter between Han was great however some it did bother me evwn though it worked... Are you telling me in all the years Han has known Chewie hes never once shot hit bowcaster?

The characters and humor are really where this movie shined and I just wanted to see more of Finn, Rey, Poe and Kylo. A little too much fan service which I did expect, but I felt held it back a tad.
The ending was rad. Mark Hamill says so much with just one facial expression. Also has some great lightsaber fights that don't feel as dance corriographed as the prequels, no these guys/gals are trying to friggin murder each other.

It was a fun romp that felt very reminiscent of A New Hope for better and worse. Its a great set up for what comes next.

I loved it. Did it live up to my expectations? Yes and No but that's to be expected.

...so I guess it did.

It was absolutely amazing. However, this post will be for my biggest gripes:

1. Death Planet. Really? The amount of resources spent could have been used to make an immeasurable amount of Star Destroyers. They could have sent so many Destroyers to each of those planets and bombed them in equivalence to Exterminatus in Warhammer terms.

2. The time it took for Rey to lightspeed to Luke's hidden planet. Seriously? Traveling across the Galaxy takes time, even in lightspeed. Unless they were right next to the System, she arrived way too quickly for that to accurately show how lightspeed travel actually works in their universe.

3. Captain Phasma. The best of the best. You're going to tell me that she is willing to compromise the entire Death Planet's shield over something as insignificant as her life? A real Imperial captain never would have done something so selfish. A regular Stormtrooper? Sure. But the Captain of the Imperial Stormtroopers? Absolutely absurd. I'm also peeved by the lack of screen time she had and how her exit of the film wasn't even shown. Hurr durr Inb4 she appears in the next film after having escaped the trash shute and fled the planet before its destruction.

Absolutely zero variety for one-man ships. Rebels get T-70 X-Wings, Imperials get TIE/fo fighters. That's it. As an X-Wing miniatures player and fan of SW ships, I was let down by the lack of variety.

Overall I'm quite pleased with the new film, but those things are intolerable by my already low standards.

I saw it Monday. I loved it!

Great movie all around with just the right amount of nostalgia.

The death planet was a little lame, but it's not really something I even thought about while enjoying the movie.

Lately coming across a ton of very negative reviews on Youtube. I just don't get the unjustified hate. It's not perfect, but neither is the original trilogy.

Don't get me wrong. I ABSOLUTELY ADORE the Star Wars movies, particularily the original trilogy, as they were a staple of my youth in the 80's/90's, but they aren't the cinematic masterpieces die-hard fans make them out to be. They are a mess, albeit a very enjoyable mess. And a lot of the folks bashing this movie don't seem to realize that.

I saw it yesterday with the wife and kids and we all liked it. I liked the new characters. I also expected them to do more with Captain Phasma and a few others, but it was good.

My gripes would be that they allowed Finn to last more than 5 seconds in a light saber fight with Kylo Ren and actually allowed Finn to land a hit. I also thought the sudden distance between Rey and Kylo Ren after she struck him down was really weird. Maybe I need to see that part again, but the amount of ground that broke away between them was huge considering I thought she would be pretty much standing right next to him.

In my opinion it was good, but not great.

Likes: Humor, actors, story and direction.

Dislikes: Aliens (To me a lot of them lacked original design), alien lady who had the light saber, not enough CGI in the background showing different beings/creatures, too much of the same (bar scene, unended battle where for some reason someone gets wounded and they are seperated, etc..)

Regardless, I am still stoked for the next episodes.

LOL, I feel special because I'm like the only one that likes Maz Kanata.

My problem was how much it copied the Episode IV formula.

Daniel Craig did an amazing job.
